SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR GLADE RUN

Once again we are calling on members of St. Peter’s to help the children and youth at Glade Run Lutheran Services.

During the month of August we will be collecting various “School Supplies.” Please bring any of the following items to church during the month:

school supplies
Markers Pencils
Crayons Backpacks
Note Books (which do not have metal spirals)
Journals (which do not have metal spirals)
Black Pens
Construction Paper

On Sunday, August 29, 2010, Ms Annie Nelson will be at St. Peter’s to take the school items to Glade Run and to also give us an up-date on what is going on at the present time.

BLESSING OF BACKPACKS

We are asking all of the children and youth, who are of school age, to bring their “Backpacks” or “School Bags” to worship on Sunday, August 29, 2010.

During the worship service Pastor Carl will have a special time for Blessing the backpacks. This is a way to celebrate the work of our students and to ask God’s blessings as they get ready to start school.

relayforlife

The American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” event is just around the corner. It is being held this year on the Penn State Campus. The relay begins on Saturday, August 14th at Noon and continues through Sunday, August 15th and ends at Noon.

We are very proud and excited that this year St. Peter’s will have a walking team participate. We are grateful for the support shown in various ways by our members.

Even if you are not walking, come on out and see what all takes place at this “Team Event to Fight Cancer.”

ST. PETER’S BOOK CLUB

The Book Club will be meeting at the home of Lori Greene on Sunday, August 15th at 6:30pm.

We will be discussing the book, “Somewhere Inside” that was written by Laura & Lisa Ling. This book tells the true story of Laura Ling was captured and held in North Korea in 2009 and the valiant efforts made by her sister, Lisa, to bring her home.

If you have read the book, or if you would just like to hear the discussion, come and join us on the 15th.

“CAMP-OUT WITH JESUS”

Come on out and join with your “church friends” as we sleep out under the stars. This event will take place on Friday, August 20th at 6:00pm. If you don’t want to sleep in a tent – you can just come for the food, singing, laughter and good fellowship and then go home to your own bed. Talk to Barry Victor if you have questions
